A Vision In A Veil :.

Technique and concepts to expand your relationship with your veil! Learn technique to conserve energy yet gain loft with your veil. Learn unique entries and wraps. And learn concepts to help you create an illuminated and visionary veil dance.

Elegant Arms and Upper Body Dynamics :.

In this workshop, Mirabai presents students with exercises that focus the mind, body and heart on arm carriage, framing, extension, elegant transitions, and the development of confidence and expression through upper body dynamics.

FANtabulous Fan Veils :.

Fan veils are an expressive, multidimensional prop which originates in Chinese dance. Mirabai has become known throughout the Northwest for her mesmerizing fan veils, and now she shares her studies which began in 2004 with you. In this 2.5 to 3 hour workshop, Mirabai introduces students to fan veil basics, talks about concepts informed by Chinese dance, and shares her fan technique. Students complete a series of combinations that demonstrate and help them practice Mirabai’s concepts and techniques. These combinations culminate in fantabulous choreography!

Baby Bump Bellydance :.

A safe, fun and sexy workout for pregnant women! Traverse the origins of belly dance which was created by women for women to guide each other through our sacred rites of passage. In this workshop, students learn basic belly dance movements and how they can help with pregnancy, birth, and postnatal recovery. We will create a Baby Welcoming Dance, and enjoy the camaraderie of other women on the same path. (Mirabai has danced her way through two pregnancies, and received Dancing For Birth training and certification.)

Poetics of Performance :.

In this workshop, Mirabai draws on a lifetime of study of dance, poetry, music and theater to present participants with an array of theories and techniques for expanding their stage presence, developing a repertoire of performance skills and building their confidence as entertainers. Combinations demonstrate and help students practice breath, vulnerability, gesture, stage psychology, and more.

Sha’abitude :.

What is sha’abi, if not attitude, attitude, and more attitude! It has become popular for Egyptian belly dancers to include one sha’abi song in their set, and thus a sha’abi style of belly dance has evolved. In this workshop, Mirabai covers sha’abi attitude and stance through a number of combinations, as well as sha’abi background, music, influences, and the current experts in sha’abi dance. Bring on that Sha’abi-tude!

Simply Saidi :.

Originally the folkloric dance of Upper Egypt (Southern Egypt), Saidi has become widely popular in belly dance today. Its infectious rhythm can be found in many contemporary songs, and its earthy and simple movements are performed by many of today's top belly dancers. This workshop assists students in establishing a basic knowledge of Saidi that will expand their dance practice and repertoire. We’ll work on a short choreography and discuss stage versus restaurant Saidi.

Taksim :.

Taksim is one of the loveliest, most expressive, and yet most vulnerable parts of the cabaret set. In this workshop, Mirabai demystifies the structure of the taksim. Students listen to various instruments, paying attention to similar landmarks until they understand the inner workings of this mystical art. Also, students practice a series of exercises to gain focus and confidence in their own mystical power to dance the taksim.
